T O P I C R E V I E WRobert PearlmanA friend and former shuttle-era spacesuit tech had the following question, which I thought if anyone could answer, it would be the cS community... Just ran through the eight episodes of the short-lived TV series "Quark, starring Richard Benjamin. It's a personal favorite of mine. Almost everything about it is bad, but it had its moments. In the final episode "Vanessa 38-24-36" (#8 of 8) Commander Quark decides to clear his head by taking his pet Ergo for an EVA.The suit that he puts on is interesting - it clearly has real AirLock hose connectors, wrist connectors and helmet disconnect. And the helmet is surprisingly real as well. It appears to be made of Beta Cloth. Any way to find out what the suit is?SpaceAholicWhy does he assume the suit fittings are "real"? There are companies which specialize in manufacturing high fidelity replicas of these components for the movie industry, such as this one.Robert PearlmanPerhaps because the episode (and series) are from 1977. Around the same time, NASA and its contractors were loaning out space hardware to appear in numerous TV and movies (for example, the 1979 finale of the original Battlestar Galactica series was filmed using a Skylab 1G trainer).SpaceAholicCertainly plausible. The company referenced in my above entry (Wonderworks) has been producing spacesuit props for 33 years (the family who runs it also has a long history of being affiliated with the aerospace industry and NASA). moorouge quote:Originally posted by SpaceAholic:There are companies which specialize in manufacturing high fidelity replicas of these components... Any chance of them replicating 'Vanessa'? stsmithvaI was seven when this show aired, but when I just Googled it, some quite fond memories of Betty 1 and Betty 2 came flooding back.
